What is FBX format

The FBX format is a proprietary 3D file format developed by Autodesk, widely used for exchanging 3D assets between software like Maya, 3ds Max, Blender, and game engines. It supports complex 3D scenes with embedded textures, materials, lights, cameras, and detailed animation data, including bones and skinning for rigged characters.

FBX files can store textures either embedded within the file or as external references. Known for its rich feature set and broad compatibility, FBX is commonly used in game development, film production, and AR/VR pipelines where animated and rigged 3D models are required.

About DAE

The DAE format (short for Digital Asset Exchange, also known as COLLADA) is an XML-based 3D file format designed for interoperability between digital content creation tools. It supports geometry, embedded or external textures, materials, animations, bones, and skinning data, making it suitable for rigged and animated models. While not as compact or fast-loading as binary formats, DAE is widely supported and used in Second Life, where it serves as the primary format for importing custom 3D content.
